GREEN TIDES

Use of nitrates to fertilise the land for the livestock and excretions of the livestock itlself is responsible for the proliferation of the sea lettuce along Brittany Coast. This pollution seen on the beaches is also very important underwater. Large marine zones are eutrophicated and asphyxiated. Marine species, especially fishes flee theses areas to the great displeasure of fichermen.

MILLION OF BY THE WIND SAILORS BEACHED IN BRITTANY

Billions of by the wind sailors (velella velella) were littering Minou beach (North West of Brest-Brittany) today : surfers had to swim through these mobile hydroids soup Theses deep blue creatures look like oval vessels, 1 to 6 cm long and are floating on sea surface. They are propelled by wind thanks to a rigid triangular sail. Yesterday strong storm certainly explains this phenomenon (see more photos in Gallery Atlantic Fauna - jellyfish)
